The Quraysh Approach Aboo Taalib Again
Back in Makkah, the Quraysh realized that they had to focus their efforts on the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) if they were to succeed in smothering Islam.
They started to think of various forms of brutality they could release against him to deter him from his activities. Yet, they still had the problem of Aboo Taalib, who swore to protect his nephew. He was a constant obstacle in their efforts to rid themselves of Muhammad (PBUH).
Therefore, they decided to approach him for the second time and insisted that he stop his nephewâs activities. If Muhammad (PBUH) persisted in his efforts to spread Islam and if Aboo Taalib continued to protect him, they threatened to fight. After the angry mob left, Aboo Taalib, greatly distressed by this threat of hostility, appealed to his beloved nephew. âO nephew, spare me and yourself and do not place a burden on me that is greater than I can bear.â
Surely, this request must have been extremely difficult for the Messenger (PBUH). How could he refuse the request of his beloved uncle who had always loved and protected him? How could he bring such difficulties to the doorstep of the man who had raised him and had never abandoned him?
Although the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) did not want to hurt his uncle, he knew that he had to continue his Mission of spreading Islam. So he politely answered, âO my uncle, by Allah, if they put the sun in my right hand and the moon in my left hand, on the condition that I leave this matter, until Allah (SWT) has made me victorious, or I perish therein, I would not abandon it!â Then, as the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) stood up and turned to leave, his uncle called him back and said, âGo ahead and preach what you please for, by Allah, i will never forsake you.â
